Vintage Brutalist Hand Made Zaalberg Vase

Vintage Brutalist Hand Made Zaalberg Vase

€ 22,95Price

This beautiful find is a hand made earthenware vase made by Zaalberg Holland.

It has a Brutalist Lava Stone style to it and is a stunning piece.

The stamp on the base makes it possible to recognise the makers mark.

Potterij Zaalberg is a family business.

Herman Zaalberg (Hermanus Zaalberg 1880-1958) started in 1918. First under the name Pottenbakkerij De Rijn. Later the name was changed to Pottenbakkerij Zaalberg.

Herman Sr. held sway until 1937.

In 1937, Meindert Zaalberg (Meindert Huibert Zaalberg 1907-1989) took over until 1962. Meindert Zaalberg himself moved to Ommen, where he started his own studio: Zaalberg Pottershuis Ommen.

In 1962, Potterij Zaalberg was taken over by Meindert Zaalberg's two sons, Gijsbert 'Gijb' Zaalberg (1937) and Herman Jr. (1935).

From 1942 to the present, only the Zaalberg brand stamps have been used.

Small scale and craftsmanship remain Zaalberg's hallmarks.

In 2001, the production of utility ceramics was stopped for good, only expensive unique pieces were produced.
