Vintage Delft Blue KLM House
KLM houses are miniature replicas of Dutch houses that are given as gifts to passengers flying on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The tradition of giving KLM houses began in the 1950s when a Delftware factory in the Netherlands created a miniature version of the House of Bols, a famous Dutch gin distillery. KLM began giving these miniature houses filled with Bols gin to their first-class passengers as a gift.
Over time, the tradition evolved and KLM began commissioning new designs for the houses each year. Today, there are over 100 different designs, each representing a real Dutch house or building. The houses are made of ceramic and are filled with Dutch gin, also known as jenever.
Passengers can receive a KLM house by flying in business class or first class on an intercontinental flight with KLM. The houses have become highly collectible and are sought after by aviation enthusiasts and collectors around the world.
In addition to being a unique gift for passengers, the KLM houses also serve as a marketing tool for the airline. The houses feature the KLM logo and are often displayed in homes and offices around the world, providing free advertising for the airline.
Overall, the KLM house is a unique and iconic tradition that has become synonymous with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
